OIA and POW team up to bring People's Emergency Briefing to London!
Outdoor Industries Association and Protect Our Winters team up to bring People’s Emergency Briefing to London
- Free event at Royal Geographical Society
- Screening of powerful documentary, followed by panel discussion
- Opportunities open for organisations to sponsor event and bring athletes
The Outdoor Industries Association (OIA) has teamed up with Protect Our Winters UK (POW UK) to host a special screening of a topical documentary about the climate crisis at the Royal Geographical Society in London. Hosted in partnership with the Snowsports Industries of Great Britain (SIGB), the event will be free to attend, and will provide an opportunity to watch the People’s Emergency Briefing, and then discuss the topics that it covers.
The People’s Emergency Briefing is a powerful new 50-minute film, presented by Chris Packham, which brings together some of the UK’s leading experts to explain clearly and accessibly what the climate and nature crisis means for our health, food systems, economy, national security and way of life. Crucially, the film also outlines what can still do to address these issues. The film grew out of the landmark National Emergency Briefing in Westminster, where ten leading experts presented the latest evidence to more than 1,200 politicians and leaders from business, culture, sport and the media.

The People’s Emergency Briefing is now being taken and screened around the country. On the evening of Wednesday 25 November, the OIA and POW UK will present it in London to an audience from the outdoor industry. The screening will be followed by a panel conversation with voices from the two organisations, along with outdoor athletes and the wider climate community.
Andrew Denton, CEO of the OIA, comments: “For those of us who work in, play in and care deeply about the outdoors, the climate and nature crisis isn’t an abstract issue. It is already changing the places, landscapes and communities that our industry depends upon. We want this special screening to be an opportunity not just to see and hear the evidence, but to talk honestly about what it means for our sector and the role that our industry and our community can play in addressing these frankly existential challenges.
“The Outdoor Industries Association is very pleased to be working closely with POW UK and the SIGB to organise this important event and spread the word as widely and effectively as possible. I urge colleagues and friends to come and watch the film, join the conversation, and be part of deciding what we do next.”
The OIA and POW UK has a range of opportunities for organisations to sponsor or support the People’s Emergency Briefing event at the Royal Geographical Society. In addition, both organisations are encouraging businesses to ask high profile outdoor athletes to attend and help spread the word about the vital messages that are included in the film.
